Models

A number of models were built for the movie, representing Speen Relco's ship, the Galen II, and Deh'ma Jow'say's station, Biosphere Nao'sin. Each of these was built in three different scales, with the Galen II and Nao'sin scaled to each other for shots where they appear together. The largest scale, used for closeups and medium shots, was approximately 1/175 scale, with the Galen II measuring approximately 45cm long and Biosphere Nao'sin about 90cm in diametre. The next size down was about 1/1000 scale. In this scale, the Galen II was 8cm long and Nao'sin was 16cm across. In the smallest scale, the Galen II was the size of a bumblebee, and Nao'sin was the size of a 25-cent coin.

Each model was completely lit, with each light individually controlable. Operating features were incorporated for certain scenes, such as the Galen II extending its legs and water umbilical, or Nao'sin retracting the solar sail spinneret and extending the docking tube.

The large Galen II model was built of various plastic shapes around an acrylic core, and detailed
with model and toy parts. It had three mounting points, and could be hung from wires if needed.

The 8cm Galen II also stood in for a display model of the Kroyla Mk. III
class of ships in Rayd Wat Sinn's office.
